Samsung Unpacked 2019
Samsung started its 2019 in style, as the company has just announced a wide range of new devices.
Headed by the Samsung Galaxy S10 range, the launch also included other phones and wearable devices.
If you have lost the livestream, do not worry, because you will find all the information below about everything that has been announced.
We were present at the event to become familiar with everything we can, so once finished, be sure to take a look at the practical reviews, articles and other information.
Samsung Galaxy S10
The Samsung Galaxy S10 is undoubtedly the main announcement and was the most anticipated.Samsung's new flagship has lots of impressive features, from its 6.1-inch QHD + Dynamic AMOLED curved screen to its triple-lens rear camera, consisting of an ultra-wide 16MP f / 2.2 lens, a telephoto lens 12MP f / 2.4 and a 12MP lens that can switch from slides f / 1.5 to f / 2.4.
The Galaxy S10 also has a revamped design, with a hole punching in the screen for the 10 MP front camera. Even the world's first ultrasonic fingerprint scanner is integrated into the display, so the frames are kept to a minimum.
The Samsung Galaxy S10 is also powerful, with a high-end chipset, 8 GB of RAM and up to 512 GB of storage, while a 3400 mAh battery continues to run. All that power is not cheap, though, with the Galaxy S10 set to start at $ 899 / £ 799 (about A A $ 1,450).
Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus
In addition to the Galaxy S10, Samsung also announced the largest Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. This has a 6.4-inch QHD + AMOLED curved screen, but the screen size is not the only difference. This phone also has a second camera on the front, with an 8MP snapper that combines the 10MP one. Even its battery is much larger, reaching 4,100 mAh, and you can get up to 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
The need to add a second front camera led to a slightly different design, with multiple pill-shaped cutouts on the screen, but otherwise the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus has the same appearance and the same specifications as the standard model.
This included a triple-lens rear camera and an on-screen fingerprint scanner. It starts at $ 999 / £ 899 (about AU $ 1,640), so if you're looking for one of these phones you'll have to save money quickly. Unless you are rich, you can buy 10 just to prove your wealth.
Samsung Galaxy S10e
If you're impressed by the price of the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 Plus, then you may be more interested in the Samsung Galaxy S10e, a phone that aims to capture the essence of his brothers at a lower price. It has a 5.8-inch AMOLED Full HD + screen that is flat rather than curved, but features an otherwise similar design, complete with a selfie camera by holes.
There are two or three cameras on the back, in particular a 16MP f / 2.2 and a 12MP with a variable aperture - so it lacks the 12MP telephoto lens of its siblings.
The Samsung Galaxy S10e is also equipped with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of storage space, a battery of 3,100 mAh and a fingerprint scanner that is on the side instead of the screen. So it's not as impressive on paper, but at an initial price of $ 749 / £ 669 (about AU $ 870) it's not necessary.
Samsung Galaxy S10 5G
This is the most premium of the Samsung Galaxy S10 models and, as you probably guessed by the name, it supports 5G.Apart from that, other highlights of the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G include a huge 6.7-inch screen, a 4,500 mAh battery and four rear cameras, consisting of the same three in the main S10 range.
In addition, a 3D camera with depth detection is available, useful for augmented and virtual reality, as well as facial recognition.
There is also a 3D camera with depth detection on the front side, next to a normal 10 megapixel snapper. This combination means that it has a larger camera than the rest of the range.
The Galaxy S10 5G also has 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage space and a microSD card slot. So it does not have the same amount of RAM as the S10 Plus, but other than that it's essentially a larger and seemingly better version of that phone.
It will not be launched until later in the year, when networks start to launch their 5G signal worldwide.
Samsung Galaxy Fold
The Samsung Galaxy Fold is even more ambitious than the Galaxy S10 range, since it is the company's first folding phone. It has a 4.6-inch screen when folded and can open up to a 7.3-inch display, large enough to allow three-way multitasking, and the app's continuity allows you to immediately resume where you left off when you switch from one screen to another.
So it fills the role of both a phone and a tablet, and there's no shortage of energy, with a high-end chipset and 12 GB of RAM.
The Galaxy Fold also has six cameras: three on the back, two on the inside and one on the front. There are 512 GB of storage space, a 4,380 mAh battery for continued operation and, optionally, 5G support.
It's the first big-name device in a new smartphone category, but it's as exciting as the Galaxy Fold: it's priceless, starting at $ 1,980 / € 2,000 (with British and Australian prices and availability still to be confirmed).
Samsung Galaxy Watch Active
Here are the phones, but the phones are not all revealed by Samsung, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active. It is essentially a sportier alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Watch, and has a round face, a heart rate monitor (which can also measure stress) and a water resistance up to a depth of 50 meters. It can also monitor sleep and is made from a lightweight aluminum, so the watch will not weigh you down like Samsung's others in the past.
He manages Tizen, but with a little makeover, as it includes Samsung's new One UI, which has never been used on a wearable. It's even more than just a gym, as it can also access apps and get notifications on your smartphone.
That said, we're not really sure how much it's an update
Samsung Galaxy Fit / Galaxy Fit E
If all you really need is a fitness band, then the Samsung Galaxy Fit or Galaxy Fit E will probably be faster. The Galaxy Fit is an incredibly lightweight basic tracker for just 24 g and allows you to monitor your heart rate and steps. It is also waterproof up to 50 meters.
The Galaxy Fit is able to automatically track six different exercises and you can monitor sleep and stress with it, with a Super AMOLED rectangular screen that is your window on everything. Presumably, your battery will last about a week, so you will not recharge it all the time.
The Samsung Galaxy Fit E is smaller, lighter (only 15 g) and generally lower-end, but with many of the same features, including a heart rate monitor and a water resistance of 50 meters ... and it is said that have a much lower price than Samsung finally pulls out a budget to wear.
Samsung Galaxy Buds
Last but not least, Samsung also announced the Samsung Galaxy Buds. These are wireless headsets apparently able to compete with Apple AirPods. They come with a case that can load them (and which can be loaded with or without wires).
The same Buds are supposed to last 6 hours of music or 5 hours of calls between charges, thanks to the AI Assistant Bixby from Samsung, which cost $ 149 / £ 139 (about AU $ 210).
